NEW! Central Florida Wine Venue Listing

Central Florida is fortunate to have a growing number of wine-centered shops, bars, and tasting rooms – veritable playgrounds for oenophiles. They offer curated selections of wines by the glass and bottle, as well as offer tastings and classes to help wine lovers educate and expand their knowledge and their palates.

Not sure where to start? I’ve compiled a list of my favorites, organized by location. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but rather a work in progress. Check back for updates as I continue to explore the area’s wine locales. (I’ve got a couple on my list already.) Talk about a labor of love!

Is your favorite sipping spot on this list? If not, let me know where I should visit next. Cheers!

Colorado Wine – A Different Kind of Rocky Mountain High

Floridians travel to Colorado a lot. Only California and Texas send more tourists to this land of snow and yogis. If you find yourself heading to the Centennial State for some skiing or hiking or yoga (or, ummm, partaking of recreational substances) it’s worth checking out the local wine too.

But on a recent visit, I was pleased to find that the quality of Colorado’s wine is nothing to sneeze at. If you know where to look, you can find some lovely, cool-climate Old World-style wines, some of them even age-worthy.

If you’ve been following My Wine Blog for awhile, you may notice things are a bit different today. Allow me to explain 1) the name change and 2) why you’ll want to stick around even if you’ve never been to Orlando.

What’s up with Orlando?

I’ve called Orlando, Florida home for well over a decade. For eight years, I reported on the city and the surrounding region as a journalist for Central Florida’s public radio station, WMFE. Over time, I’ve watched Orlando “grow up” – as a city and as a player in the world of food and wine.

Welcome to My Wine Blog!

For years, people have been telling me I should write a wine blog.

Another wine blog?!

Sure, I love wine, I go to several tastings a week, and I always seem to be talking about wine, but … another wine blog?! Just what the world needs, right?

Well, I’ve finally caved in, so here it is — My Wine Blog!

Berns

I don’t pretend that it will be particularly unique, or that it’ll fill any particular niche, or that it’ll have any consistent theme, or even that I’ll post at consistent intervals.

But I do think it’ll be fun to have a place to write about wine for my friends (and any innocent bystanders), and a place to organize my burgeoning collection of notes and thoughts about wines I’ve tried, fallen in love with, and been surprised by.
