It’s a great time to be a wine lover in the City Beautiful!

The number of wine-focused and wine-aware establishments just keeps growing (details on two brand new ones are below), as does the number of wine events popping up on the calendar. Because of this embarrassment of riches, you may notice a slight change in the level of detail on these regular posts. From now on, I’ll highlight a maximum of two events per day – but I’ll always let you know when there are more, and you can always find the full listing on the Wine Events page.

Without further ado, let’s get right to the highlights of …

ORLANDO’S WEEK IN WINE

Today (Saturday), you still have time to make it to the first anniversary celebration (and free tasting) at Tim’s Avalon Park.

Tuesday, Tim’s Wine Market head honcho Tim Varan leads a class and tasting on Bordeaux wines at his Avalon Park outpost.

Wednesday, taste boutique wines from Santa Barbara with Samsara Wine Co. owners Dave and Joan Szkutak at Digress; or sample Domaine Serene’s Willamette Valley wines and wines from their Burgundy estate at Tim’s Windermere.

Thursday, Swirlery hosts its first wine dinner in over a year with an Italian-themed multi-course pairing meal, The Wine Barn hosts Willamette winemaker Sterling Fox of Mad Violets Wine Company, and there are three more events around town listed on the calendar!

Friday, Hemisphere Restaurant’s Spring Wine Dinner features South African wines from Orlando’s own Inquisitor Wine Company.

Saturday, Luisa’s Cellar holds a class on the many faces of chardonnay, and Regency Wine & Liquor features Ca’Montebello wines at its latest tasting.

All the details are on the Calendar Page, along with listings through the rest of March and into April.

About those new places to wine …

I checked out The Imperial‘s brand new Winter Park location last night (they opened Thursday), and I’m excited about their fun vermouth selection! By the way, Matt Coltrin from The Parkview on nearby Park Ave. tells me he has a vermouth program coming soon too – it’s a welcome trend, if you ask me.

Today, I swung by Eola General for lunch. This pleasant neighborhood sandwich shop, pictured at the top of this post, had its official soft opening on Wednesday, with an adventurous by-the-glass natural wine list created by Matt Uva of the Milk District’s soon-to-open Curate Art + Wine.

Cheers and happy exploring, Orlando!
